inches, with locally higher amounts from Keysers Ridge down along
the western face of Backbone Mountain. Winds gusting as high as 55
mph.
* WHERE…In Maryland, Garrett County. In West Virginia, Western
Grant and Western Pendleton Counties.
* WHEN…Until 4 AM EST Thursday.
* IMPACTS…Brief whiteout conditions are possible with visibilities
dropping below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The
strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines
and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very
difficult along Interstate 68 and US-40 west of Big Savage
Mountain, US-48 west of Scherr, and US-33 west of Seneca Rocks.
The hazardous conditions could impact holiday travel.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Precipitation will change to snow by daybreak
this morning. Snowfall rates around 1 to 1.5 inches per hour are
possible at times through Wednesday evening especially in embedded
snow squalls that pass through. Freezing drizzle is possible in
between steadier snows. Precipitation intensity will decrease by
early Thursday morning.
