The setup of an arctic air mass over the Copper River Basin and a
broad upper low in the Gulf of Alaska will result in the formation
of a thermal/pressure gradient over the central Chugach Mountains
beginning Thursday night. Temperatures for Thompson Pass will drop
below zero and persist into Saturday. Additionally, winds will
also intensify, with gusts reaching as high as 50 mph. This combination
will produce wind chill values as low as 40 below to 50 below
zero early Friday and into the weekend.
