* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE…A portion of Henderson County, North Carolina.
* WHEN…Until 500 PM EST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS…Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.
A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 459 AM EST, Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen
over the past 24 hours across the Mud Creek watershed from
Crab Creek to Hendersonville to Mountain Home. This has
resulted in a lengthy period of excessive runoff and flows
into Mud Creek and associated tributaries, including Bat Fork
and Wash creeks. Mud Creek is currently above
Action/Advisory Stage, resulting in nuisance flooding of
adjacent low-lying areas. Floodwaters are likely affecting
William H King Memorial Park.
The following streamgauge is above Action/Advisory Stage,
resulting in nuisance flooding along Mud Creek…
ID: MNMN7
NAME: at N Main St, 1 N Hendersonville
CURRENT STAGE: 11.79 feet
ACTION/ADVISORY STAGE: 11.50 feet
MINOR FLOOD STAGE: 14.00 feet
CREST: Not Occurred
TREND: Rising Slowly
ESTIMATED FORECAST: Mud Creek will likely appear to crest,
then begin a new rise in response to ongoing rainfall.
Currently, a crest between 12.0 feet and 12.5 feet is
possible later this morning. The creek will begin a gradual
recession during the afternoon and will fall back below
Action/Advisory Stage this evening.
IMPACTS: At 11.5 feet, Action/Advisory Stage. Common,
nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to Mud Creek is
beginning. The lowest elevations of William H King Memorial
Park are beginning to flood and floodwaters are approaching
the lowest elevations of the Oklawaha Greenway. At this
stage, more expansive lowland flooding with nuisance impacts
to adjacent farmland, golf courses, and nurseries is ongoing
or has recently occurred upstream closer to Erkwood Dr.
– Doppler radar and automated gauges indicate light rain has
persisted overnight. A band of moderate rain is currently
moving across the watershed and additional light rain will
persist behind this short-lived band. Additional rainfall
amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area.
This additional rainfall may cause some areas of flooding to
worsen slightly and cause new areas of nuisance flooding to
develop. It will also prolong excessive runoff and delay
the crest and recession of Mud Creek.
– Some locations that may experience flooding include…
Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Mountain Home, Laurel Park, Valley
Hill and Crab Creek.
