* WHAT…Extremely cold temperatures as low as 40 below.
* WHERE…Municipality of Skagway particularly along the
Klondike Highway and near White Pass.
* WHEN…Until 6 AM AKST Sunday.
* IMPACTS…Frostbite and hypothermia are likely if exposed to
these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Subzero temperatures of 10 degrees below
zero or colder along the Klondike Highway have will continue
through Saturday night. Temperatures near sea level in Skagway
are expected to continue in the single digits overnight.
Sustained wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph
will cause dangerously cold wind chills through early Sunday
morning with the coldest values near White Pass.
